“The John McCain Dissertation Award is presented at the Munich Security Conference in honour of US Senator John McCain for 'outstanding academic achievements in the field of transatlantic relations'.

This year the award was presented to Dr Tim Heinkelmann-Wild for his dissertation titled 'After Exit: Alternative Leadership and Institutional Resilience after Hegemonic Withdrawal'.

It has generated great interest given US withdrawal (or threatened withdrawal) from a number key multilateral institutions.

His research presents a more optimistic picture of multilateral resilience than often presented.”
